I believe cars are being phased out. The erosion of rights of private motor vehicle owners, excessive taxation, the sustained attacks through legislation on cars, such as environmental and safety laws, and more recently, the tech, such as autonomous vehicles, which will be controlled by a Big Brother style computer system, are all blatantly evident of plans to end private driving.
